The Universe in Pocket-Size: Miniatures by Dara Zindovic
Between 2004 and 2008 Dara worked extensively with the small-size format of 15 x 15 cm or 5,90″ x 5,90″. Miniature formats of this kind can enable artists to achieve results quickly and to test different ideas to see if they may work on a bigger level. For a while miniatures became a site of experimentation for Dara on which she let different colours, forms, effects and materials come together to see how they mesh (or don’t mesh) with each other. The resulting paintings contain a vast range of motifs such as contemplations on particular colours or collages that have a raw and sketchy feel to them. Some miniatures seem to depict a rivalry between two colours, while others unveil a fascinating world of circles and spirals. In the upcoming weeks we will post each day one of these particular creations by Dara.
